Against this backdrop, Wolfe Research screened for stocks that can help investors navigate a still challenging macroeconomic backdrop. Johnson & Johnson was one of the companies that made the cut. Johnson & Johnson also said earlier in May it would spend $6.5 billion to resolve all outstanding litigation in the U.S. tied to claims its talc power caused ovarian cancer. For more than half a century, Thailand’s state-owned tobacco monopoly mass-produced cigarettes at a sprawling industrial estate in Bangkok. A steady stream of heavy trucks brought raw tobacco into the heart of the city and hauled millions of cigarettes away. But now, that cancer-inducing complex has given way to something completely different: green space that has brought a breath of fresh air to Bangkok’s congested, often smoggy center. The site — an expansion of the existing Benjakitti Park — includes a mile-long elevated walkway, as well as water-purifying wetlands, 8,000 new trees, pickleball and basketball courts, and a dog-walking zone. At sunset, as the heat of the day eases, it is often packed with visitors, many posing for selfies.

Moderna on Friday said the Food and Drug Administration has delayed the approval of its vaccine for respiratory syncytial virus to the end of May due to "administrative constraints" at the agency. The FDA was expected to make a decision on the RSV shot on Sunday. If cleared, the RSV shot would become the company's second product to launch in the U.S. after its once-blockbuster Covid vaccine. It would also be the third RSV vaccine to enter the market after shots from Pfizer and GSK rolled out last year. Moderna said its RSV vaccine is still on track to be reviewed by an advisory panel to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during a meeting on June 26 and 27.

Barclays thinks Relay Therapeutics stock can benefit from progress in drug tests to get a proposed breast cancer treatment approved, boosting the stock. Relay stock has slumped 40% in 2024. "We believe the 2H update will help show the superior efficacy/safety profile for Relay's PI3Kalpha (RLY-2608) over existing PI3Kalpha inhibitors like alpelisib and inavolisib," Lawson said. Barclays sees a 70% chance of positive data emerging from an expanded Phase 1 study of RLY-2608 (+fulvestrant) in advanced HR+/HER2- breast cancer. That outcome, "all else equal, could potentially drive the stock up $5 while negative data could drive the stock down $2," the bank said.

CNN —Eating ultraprocessed foods is associated with an early risk of death, according to a 30-year study — but different foods have different impacts. Meats were shown to have a bigger impact on risk of death than many other kinds of ultraprocessed foods, according to the new study. Adam Höglund/iStockphoto/Getty ImagesSong described the correlation as “moderate,” noting that the connection was not equally strong among all kinds of ultraprocessed foods. Song wouldn’t necessarily advise a complete rejection of all ultraprocessed foods because it is a diverse category, he said. “Just be mindful of the nutritional content of (the ultraprocessed foods) that you do choose to consume.”It is also important to recognize that foods need to be eaten in balance.

Read previewA luxury gym chain is launching a program costing $40,000 a year that it says will help clients to boost their longevity. But experts told Business Insider you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to enjoy a long, healthy life. The program, which will later be available in other states, aims to help customers "live 100 healthy years," Jonathan Swerdlin, co-founder of Function Health, told CNBC. Research suggests that weight, or strength, training is beneficial for longevity because it builds muscle mass, which helps maintain strength and mobility into older age. One 2022 study found that those who did 30 minutes of strength training a week were 10% to 20% less likely to die from chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

R.F.K. Jr. Says Doctors Found a Dead Worm in His Brain
  + stars: | 2024-05-08 | by ( Susanne Craig | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
In 2010, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was experiencing memory loss and mental fogginess so severe that a friend grew concerned he might have a brain tumor. Several doctors noticed a dark spot on the younger Mr. Kennedy’s brain scans and concluded that he had a tumor, he said in a 2012 deposition reviewed by The New York Times. Mr. Kennedy was immediately scheduled for a procedure at Duke University Medical Center by the same surgeon who had operated on his uncle, he said. While packing for the trip, he said, he received a call from a doctor at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital who had a different opinion: Mr. Kennedy, he believed, had a dead parasite in his head. The doctor believed that the abnormality seen on his scans “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died,” Mr. Kennedy said in the deposition.
